MARCH GALLERY WALK – 3/5 @ 6PM at THE BOOK CELLAR
Science fiction and fantasy author Alexander Potter discusses what happens when the truth creeps into fiction. Years ago he gave up on trying to keep his family, friends, and personal history from splashing all over his stories. At the event he’ll talk about how that affects his writing, including his latest story in A GIRL’S GUIDE TO GUNS AND MONSTERS. From the tenet of “write what you know” to the concept that the author is every character in a given work, Alex will share selections of his fiction that illustrate his life, and talk about the process of putting oneself on the page. In this case, the fiction may be stranger than the truth, but it’s a close call.

Join us as Vermont historian Vincent Feeney discusses the history of the Irish in Vermont from 6pm to 7pm on February 5th during gallery walk.
Feeney’s new book, Finnigans, Slaters, and Stonepeggers: A History of the Irish in Vermont was recently featured on Vermont Public Radio’s Vermont Edition and has been receiving rave reviews around from the state. The book peels back the Yankee mythos and examines the surprisingly rich, true story of the Irish in Vermont. From the first steady trickle of colonial pioneers to the flood of famine refugees and onward, Feeney tells how the Irish arrived, fought, labored, played and managed to prosper in Vermont.
During the event Feeney will read from his new work, take your questions, and sign copies of the book.

The Book Cellar is pleased to welcome apiarist, author, and the founder and owner of Red Bee Honey, Marina Marchese .
Marina will be signing copies of her new book, Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper, answering questions, and treating the audience to a delicious assortment of her signature honeys.
In 1999, Marina Marchese fell in love with bees while touring a neighbor’s honeybee hives. Eventually she left her job, acquired some Italian honeybees, built her own hives, and began harvesting honey. Inspired by her growing connection with the bees, she went on to earn a certificate in apitherapy and to study wine tasting in order to transfer those skills to honey tasting. Marina ultimately launched her own business, and today Red Bee® Honey (www.redbee.com) sells artisanal honey and honey-related products to shops and restaurants all over the country.

A profitable business owner turned author, Crispina has been a pioneer of the green movement since the 1980’s. Using recycled textiles to create home accessories, sweaters, and even furniture, she has rescued nearly 500,000 pounds of clothing from landfills.
Her new book, The Sweater Chop Shop: One-of-a-Kind Creations from Recycled Sweaters is the perfect book for any do-it-yourself crafter. Large or small, simple or intricately embellished, every project is a work of recycled art – good for the wallet and even better for the environment.
During her event at The Book Cellar, Crispina will show audience members how to make fabric flower creations, answer questions, and sign copies of her book.

Castle Freeman is the award-winning author of several novels including All That I Have and Go With Me, which was featured on NPR. The Kirkus Review said of Go With Me, “If all novels were this good, Americans would read more.” Freeman is also a regular contributor to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
George Haggerty has over twenty years experience as a professional entertainer, mountain dulcimer builder, and teacher. His performances are filled with humor, and his love for the mountain dulcimer is contagious. Haggerty and his wife live in Jacksonville and are the owners of Folk Craft Music.

Bartleby’s is closed this week while we move to our new location of 17 West Main Street (in the former Klara Simpla/Hundredth Monkey building). We closed the store yesterday and with the help of some fantastic volunteers, packed up more than half the store. We’ll be moving to our new location over the next week and hope to reopen by Thursday, November 19th.
When we re-open we’ll be offering 15% off storewide through Thanksgiving weekend.
