Book Cellar Fire
To our customers and friends,
The building that The Book Cellar is in suffered a catastrophic fire last Sunday night. Miraculously, all of the building's sixty or so residents made it out unharmed. The contents of the building and the bookstore were not as lucky. The building is completely closed while determinations are made regarding rebuilding and the clean up. All of The Book Cellar's books were lost to water damage. We are closed indefinitely and will keep you posted on future plans as soon we know what those are.
On a positive note The Book Cellar had signed on a huge event with Rick Riordan, author of the incredibly popular Percy Jackson series, who is on tour promoting the second book in his new series, The Kane Chronicles. We have decided to continue with this event, which will take place at the River Garden on Friday, May 6 during Gallery Walk. More information on this event to come in the next day or so.
My thanks to the incredible Book Cellar and Bartleby's staff, the bookselling community, firefighters, friends and strangers who have reached out to us in this sad time. Many thanks to Ana McDaniel, the Book Cellar's manager, who handled the bulk of the details post-fire, while I was out of the country on vacation.
Customers may continue to purchase books from our website and we will ship them from Bartleby's in Wilmington. eBooks may be purchased as well.
Thank you for your support during this time.

Jon Katz event was a great success!
Thanks to those who attended our event with Jon Katz last night. It was a great night. Jon was wonderful, engaging and inspiring. Thanks to discussions with Jon, look forward to more VIDEO from Bartleby's. We plan to use more video to show you how our progress is coming here in Wilmington and at Barlteby's. We are pushing hard for a Thanksgiving weekend opening and we're going to chronicle the progress for you. Thanks Jon!
We have signed copies available of most of Jon's books, including his latest outlined below. If you order online and would like a signed copy, please include that in the comments field.
See you in the store soon! Lisa
Thank you Bartleby's customers!
What a great weekend at Bartleby's! It was great to be open again, if only for the weekend and with our limited inventory. Our customers, friends and neighbors were so supportive. We can't wait until we open fully in November.
Also, many thanks to my children, Ally and Zach, and their friends Julia, Noura, Ella, Jillian and James for running the best darn lemonade stand ever. The kids raised $661 for the Wilmington VT Flood Relief Fund. Thanks for supporting their efforts.
Thanks to Bartleby's staff for volunteering their time and energy this weekend and thanks to Pamela, Dawno and Khaled for bringing the extra energy from Rhode Island. Thanks to Phil for getting the store to a place where we could host this sale.
This weekend really lifted our spirits!
Thanks to all,
Lisa
Flooding from Irene shuts down Bartleby's
It is with a heavy heart that I write this post about the flooding in Wilmington. Bartleby's is currently closed (as is the whole of downtown Wilmington) due to devastating flooding. We have lost the majority of our inventory as well as all of our shelving and we'll require extensive renovations, but the building is sound and we are one of the more fortunate sites in the village. Some buildings washed away down river and others have been condemned. The incredible strength and support that we have experienced over the last few days has been the lifeline we've needed. Friends and neighbors have come together to help our community. The downtown businesses are getting cleaned up more quickly with so much volunteer help.
Bartleby's will reopen and we will do whatever we can to help other businesses and individuals affected. We are blessed to live and work in this community. Wilmington will be put back together!
We will post updates as we have them. Thank you for your support.

Washington Post article about Wilmington village
Wilmington (and Bartleby's Books) is getting some great coverage in Sunday's Washington Post. Hooray! It's so exciting to see that our town is being appreciated for the great place that it is. Randi, thanks for the great article! Here's the article:
Ski Diva Mystery Author Wendy Clinch
Ski Diva Mystery Author Wendy Clinch to sign at Bartleby’s Books
Wendy Clinch, creator of the website, theskidiva.com, and author of the Ski Diva mysteries, comes to the Mount Snow area for an in-store event at Bartleby's Books. Wendy will be promoting her second book in the series, Fade to White, answering any questions readers have about the books. Wendy spent 25 years in the advertising industry before moving to Vermont, launching her blog and writing her first mystery, which was published last year. The ski diva mysteries are set in Vermont.
About the mysteries:
In DOUBLE BLACK, Boston’s twenty-something Stacey Curtis ditches her cheating fiance and heads for a Vermont ski town. She’s looking for the life she’s always dreamed about, but she stumbles instead into financial intrigue, bitter family warfare, and murder. Populated with quirky characters, loaded with New England atmosphere, and starring a young woman with nerve, spunk, and a sense of humor about it all, DOUBLE BLACK is an exciting run down some treacherous mountain trails.
Snow isn't the only white powder falling on Spruce Peak when Stacey Curtis returns in FADE TO WHITE, her second Ski Diva mystery.
Hollywood has-been Harper Stone arrives in Stacey's little Vermont town to shoot a mouthwash commercial, and he's anything but happy about the downward spiral his career has taken. When the ornery actor turns up dead a few days later—and the last person to see him alive turns out to be Brian Russell, Stacey’s jealous ex-fiancé—things start getting complicated.
Hollywood has come to the Green Mountains, and you'll want to hold on tight—because in this fast-paced sequel to DOUBLE BLACK, everything's going downhill fast.
Wendy will be at Bartleby’s Books on Saturday, January 15th from 3pm – 5pm for the après-ski crowd to meet Wendy, ask questions and get books signed. If customers are unable to make the event and would like to purchase a signed copy, either place an order on the website asking for a signed copy in the notes field or call Bartleby's Books at 802-464-5425.
